The first Horizons Health Care Golf Tournament Fundraiser was held on June 28, with ideal weather conditions, at Cedaredge Golf Course.
Due to the positive experience of tournament play, many of the participants were asking if this tournament would be offered again next year.
Organizer Sara Sterling (LNHA, MBA), the Executive Director of Volunteers of America at Horizons Health Care and Retirement Community, indicated there is a strong possibility of another tournament in 2015.
There were 11 teams playing for top honors with several prizes, including a new 2014 Toyota Corolla (Hellman Toyota), enticing golfers to hit their best shots.
Players used a four-man scramble format to play the 18 holes of golf.
The day’s winning team fired a round of 61 to edge its closest challenge by one stroke. Members of the winning team included Denise Swanson, Rex Swanson, Randy Lehman and Brad Bingham.
The second-place team of Keith Rusk, Todd Markley, Bryce Markley and Greg Markley checked in with a score of 62.
Speciality prizes went to Brad Bingham for the men’s longest drive, Tammy Blanchette with the women’s longest drive, Wayne Crick for closest to the pin, and Brad Bingham with the longest marshmallow drive.
Sterling expressed her feelings on the success of the tournament. “It was a very successful day! We raised over $7000. The proceeds will go toward a new spa tub for the residents residing at Horizons Care Center. We are very thankful to our sponsors and players — it’s wonderful to a part of a supportive community!”
