Diane Lauer, Colorado state director for the program, presented a banner to the school.

Five Colorado schools received this honor, which rewards successful schools and finds out why they are successful. The middle schools grades are watched for several years to make sure they are on a trajectory of success. The Hotchkiss fifth through eighth grades are outpacing most others in the same grades. She noted that this is because of academic excellence, developmental responsiveness by the staff and community dedicated to not letting students fail, social equity exemplified by students treating everyone with respect, and an organizational structure that provides strong leadership and professional development for staff.

School representatives will be recognized this summer in Washington D.C.

Hotchkiss eighth grade students with a 3.7 to 4.0 grade point average qualified for the Gold Club. The awards ceremony was April 28.
