Surface Creek Senior Citizens and the Cedaredge Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the AppleFest Apple Baking Contest again this year. Check through your recipe book or file to find that favorite apple recipe, bake it and enter this year's contest. Apples must be included in all entries. Fritchman Orchards is providing apples. Pick up enough for your recipe at the Senior Center on Wednesday, October 28, and sign up to bake for the sale. Bring your creation and a copy of the recipe to the Cedaredge Chamber of Commerce building prior to 9 a.m. on Saturday only, Oct. 1. Ribbons and cash prizes provided by the chamber, will be awarded in the following categories: 1-pies, 2-cakes, 3-crisps and cobblers, 4-breads and muffins, and 5-miscellaneous (such as apple dumplings or apple butter). Judging results will be posted around noon. Extra pies and cakes (not judged and can be an apple recipe or other) are needed in order to supply demand throughout the day. Coffee, iced tea, hot chocolate and individual servings of ice-cream topped pie or cake will be offered as a fund raiser for the Cedaredge Senior Center. Contact person, if needed, is Marge Davis at 835-3307.
