Norbert Miessler died Dec. 21, 2016, at San Juan Living Center in Montrose. He was 90.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Rosin officiating.
Mr. Miessler was born in Wentzville, Mo., in 1926 to Rev. Arthur and Emma Miessler.
He graduated from high school in Wentzville in 1943 and enrolled in the U.S. Navy V-12 program. He received a medical discharge and enrolled at the University of Missouri under the GI bill of rights. After graduation he worked in radio broadcasting for 15 years as an announcer, DJ, radio personality and station manager in Missouri, Illinois and Fort Collins.
He married Del Rood in November 1950. He served as director of Christian education for nine years at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fort Collins. He attended classes at CSU and did his student teaching at Poudre Valley High School. He also attended Concordia University in Seward, Neb., for his Christian training.
In 1970 the Miesslers moved to Montrose where Mr. Miessler taught at the high school until 1989. He continued to substitute until 1999 when he moved to Eckert.
He was also a part-time lay preacher in Fort Collins, Gunnison, Montrose, Nucla and at All Saints Lutheran Church in Orchard City.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Del; two daughters, Christine and Denise; a sister, Miriam of Westminster, Md.; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
