Norma L. Bunzel of Delta died Nov. 11, 2017, at Horizons Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was 87.
She was born on July 14, 1930, in Pagosa Springs to George Noble and Dora (Rathjen) Bashor. She spent her childhood in Colorado, Nevada and California and attended Covina Union High School in Covina, Calif.
In 1948 she married Harlow Hurley. They had two children. After that marriage ended, she married Thomas Barr. They later divorced.
On Nov. 1, 1980, she married Fred Bunzel in Phoenix, Ariz. She worked in mortgage brokerage. They moved to the San Francisco Bay area in California where she had own mortgage business.
Upon retirement, they moved to Magalia, Calif. They travelled extensively.
Mr. Bunzel died in 2005, and Mrs. Bunzel moved to Delta to be closer to family members.
She enjoyed fishing, rock collecting, viewing petroglyphs, pretty things, cute clothes and blinged-out shoes.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Burnett of Sanger, Calif.; daughters, Claudia Dougherty of Vallejo, Calif., and Sheryl "Sheri" Serve of Delta; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bunzel.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Chapel in Delta with James Gall officiating. Her ashes will be interred in Aztec (N.M.) Cemetery at a later date.
