A Toyota 4-Runner ended up nose first in the Gunnison River near the Cottonwood Grove Campground off South River Road. The campground is on BLM property. At the request of the BLM, sheriff's deputies investigated the scene the morning of March 3. They determined the vehicle was registered to David Olsen, 36, of Delta. Contacted later that day, Olsen said he had been four-wheeling in the area. He thought he was on the road, but instead ended up in the river at about 11 p.m. He hiked out and returned in the morning to retrieve his vehicle. The investigation was turned over to the BLM.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
