The 2017 version of the Denver Nuggets Basketball Skills Challenge took place on Monday, Jan. 2, at Bill Heddles Rec Center in Delta.
This event is a basketball competition that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in dribbling, passing and shooting. The program is produced by the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Parks and Recreation Association with support from the City of Delta.
Winners of each age group advance to a sectional competition with winners there advancing to the state championship to be held in conjunction with a Denver Nuggets game at the Pepsi Center in March.
This year's winners are Peyton Huntley (girls 7/8 years old), Lilly Nelson (girls 9/10 years old), JP Gallegos (boys 9/10 years old), Jessica Black (girls 11/12 years old), Landan Clay (boys 11/12 years old), Payten Hodgin (girls 13/14 years old) and Gideon Gilmore (boys 13/14 years old).
On Friday, Feb. 10, Stephen Felix, a 52-year-old male from Olathe, was brought to Montrose Memorial Hospital by the Olathe Ambulance in an unconscious state. Radiologic examination revealed traumatic injuries and an acute subarachnoid hemorrhage over his brain.
