In May, five visioning workshops were held around the county with nearly 300 people participating in the initial phase of updating the county master plan.
Many themes were presented that represent what we all love about living here -- the value of agriculture to the county, the rural lifestyle, open scenery, and the clean air and water. Many of the issues presented were not new including concerns over the use of public lands and protecting private property rights. Less commonly heard, but shared across most of the communities, was concern about future generations being able to live and work in Delta County.
While the community meetings for the visioning phase are completed, your ideas are still welcome. From now until July 1, a questionnaire will be available online at deltacountyplan.com. Fill out the questionnaire online or pick up a copy at the county offices in Delta located at 501 Palmer, Suite 115. You can also request a questionnaire by calling Elyse Ackerman-Casselberry, Delta County community and economic development director, at 874-2105.
Area residents are also invited to share their story on a community forum. Share what you love about living here and why that matters to you, your concerns and your hopes. This is for those who want to be able to share their thoughts without answering a questionnaire.
The results of the community meetings, forum and questionnaire will be synthesized by RPI Consulting into a Delta County public input summary. This summary will be shared with the community in late July along with the draft vision and goals report.
