Photo by Hank Lohmeyer The valley's fruit industry geared up into an expansion phase this season as Williams Orchards took the mothballs out of the long unused packing shed on Fruitgrower's Road and put it into productive operation.

Williams Orchards has acquired the former Hi-Quality fruit packing facility on Fruitgrowers Road in a lease/purchase deal.

Connie Williams told the DCI that the company is already using the facility for fruit packing and processing. "We just finished peaches and are ready to start apples," she said last week.

Williams noted that her husband, Dan, worked on the building's construction when he was in high school.

The family business owned the building and sold it 26 years ago, she said. It has been mostly unused for some years and is now back in service as a contributing part of the valley's fruit industry.
