Orville "Oscar" Evans of Orchard City, Colo., age 79, July 22, 2015.
He was the fifth child born to Alice (Goudy) Evans and Henry Hobson Evans, Sept. 11, 1935, in Manzanola, Otero County, Colo. They grew up on family farms in southwest Colorado. Oscar graduated from Ordway High School in 1954.
Oscar was married to his high school sweetheart, JoAnne Arlene Geringer, after her high school graduation when she followed him to Englewood, Colo. They were married at the University Hills Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses July 31, 1955. JoAnne was also born and raised in the Colorado Arkansas River Valley in Cheraw, Otero County, Colo.
Oscar was a barber by trade, graduating from Colorado Barber College. He continued to teach barbering courses at the college in downtown Denver on Larimer Street.
After starting a family and owning and operating several barbershops in the Denver metro area, Oscar and JoAnne sought a rural community to raise their three preteen children, Tammy Diane, Reyna Suzanne and Randy Eugene. In 1972, the Western Slope of Colorado became the place to build their new home in Orchard City.
Over the years Oscar took on a variety of work at Burkey Lumber, Cedaredge Meat Packing plant and Horizons Nursing Home (Volunteers of America) in charge of maintenance and construction for 28 years before his retirement.
JoAnne and Oscar enjoyed many activities together -- their ministry work, traveling, hobbies, boating, water skiing, billiard pool and antiquing. One of their favorite trips overseas was to Greece. He had a passion to root for the Denver Broncos and the Nebraska Huskers. Oscar will always be remembered for his handyman work and countless projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Harold Allen; along with two brothers, Roger of Pueblo, Colo., and Junior of Kentucky; along with only sister, Dorothy Reeves, sisters-in-law, Loretta and Wanda Evans; lifelong partner, JoAnne Evans of Orchard City, Colo., daughter, Reyna (Nathan) Humphrey of Grand Junction, Colo.; and son-in-law, Robert Gene Theis of Montrose, Colo.
