Orville Schneider died Nov. 13, 2016, at Crossroads Assisted Living Center in Delta. He was 91.
He was born in Natoma, Kan., Jan. 4, 1925, to John and Emma (Rediker) Schneider. His father died when he was 3 months old. His mother remarried Feb. 9, 1939, and a short time later the family moved to Paonia.
Mr. Schneider joined the Army in December 1944. He served most of his two years as part of the occupational forces of Japan.
On Dec. 1, 1946, he married Yvonne Ewing. They ran a farm and dairy on Lamborn Mesa for 20 years.
After selling the dairy he went into construction and, with assistance, built the Paonia State Bank, Immanuel Lutheran Church, family homes, family cabins and cabins for others at the Arrowhead Subdivision in Gunnison County.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Paonia. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, John Oran, who died at 15, and his wife, Yvonne, who died June 4, 2003.
He is survived by his brother, Virgil (Dorothy) Schneider of Paonia; sister, Mabel Pruter of Kansas City, Kan.; son, Tim (Teresa) Schneider of Paonia; daughter, Dea (Don) Pyle of Cedaredge; an adopted son, Ron (Ellen) Evans of Louisville; nine grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Paonia. A family prayer and scripture will be offered by Pastor Duane Daeke at 9:30 a.m.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
