Delta's Panthers participated in last week's Phil Wertman Invitational at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction. The Panthers' girls finished with 81 points and a fifth place. Delta's boys finished eighth with 38 points.
While the girls had four first-place finishes, Delta's boys had two third-place finishes from John Ames and the 3200m relay team, to lead the scoring.
The same athletes who produce the majority of Delta's points came through again last Friday. Lily Lockhart won both the shot put and discus events and Emily Baier showed signs of finishing the season strong with a win in triple jump and a fifth in long jump. Teona Martinez placed third with her jump of 15-3.
Baier's triple jump distance, 35-8.5, moved her from 15th on the qualifying list to number three. Emily Nortnik finished seventh in triple jump and fourth in high jump competitions last Friday.
Lockhart's distances for the shot and discus were not enough to move her up in Class 4A standings, but she is ranked first in shot put with a throw of 40-5.5. Lockhart's distance at the Wertman Invitational was 39-8.5.
Lockhart sits in the second spot in Class 4A discus rankings with a mark of 139-8 from a throw at the Delta Panther Invitational on March 19. Friday's throw was 131-9.
Delta's 800m sprint medley relay team's time of 1:56.28 last Friday is just over two seconds away from a qualifying time for this year's state track meet.
Other top three finishes for the Panther girls included third place in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay races.
Mykayla Music was fifth in the 200m, with teammates Abbi Beckwith (800m), Beki Atchley (1600m) and Martinez (100m) placing seventh.
Jade Mahaffey was eighth in the 1600m and Delta's 800m relay team finished eighth as well.
Ames finished strong in the 3200m run to place third with a time of 10:58.02 to lead the Panthers in individual points.
Delta's 3200m relay team had a good time of 8:45.27 to finish in third place.
Kory Mills had top five finishes in the throwing events with a fourth in discus (134-08) and fifth in shot put (44-06). Elijah Valdez had an eighth-place finish in shot put.
Sixth place went to Delta's 800m relay team, with the 400m and 1600m relay teams placing seventh.
Logan Reed also garnered seventh-place points in the 800m.
Delta's Doh Eh Htoo finished eighth in the 400m dash.
The Panthers are in Montrose for a Friday meet beginning at 10 a.m.
