Panthers defeat 4A Palisade in mat dual

The Delta Panthers had too much for Palisade last Thursday when the two teams met in Palisade for dual competition. The Panthers prevailed, 54-27.

There were six pins recorded by Delta along with three forfeits for wins.

Kole Roberts, beginning the match for Delta at 145, was the first winner for the Panthers. Roberts, who is ranked fifth in Class 3A, pinned the Bulldogs' Chance Charlesworth, who is ranked ninth in Class 4A polls.

Other pinfall winners for Delta were Logan Mayberry (113), Kavan Trujillo (120), Chance Dillingham (152), Kory Mills (170) and Logan Church (285).

Panthers who won by forfeit included Luke Anderson (106), Brandon Harper (126) and Livan Santander (220).

Suffering losses for Delta were Kylar Massano (132), Shaun Staats (138), Stephen Davignon (160), Sam Komives (182) and Josh Reeder (195).

Delta is currently ranked 10th in Class 3A wrestling polls conducted by CHSAA. Valley is ranked first, with Olathe penciled in at number four.

The Panthers are set to compete in one of the most anticipated duals of their season when they face Paonia's Eagles on Thursday, Feb. 4, beginning at 6 p.m. in Paonia.
