Panthers end XC campaign

Delta High School's cross country teams ended their seasons last week with competitions in the Colorado 4A Region 6 Cross Country Meet in Delta.
Battle Mountain won the team title in the girls' division with 31 points. Steamboat Springs was second with 87 points, Palisade third with 103 points and Durango fourth with 107 points. All four teams will represent the western slope at this week's state meet. In addition, the top 15 runners also advance.
The Panthers failed to qualify athletes in the female division.
Mykayla Music was the first Delta runner to finish the race. She was 24th with a time of 20:36.22.
Abbi Beckwith finished 49th for the Panthers, 21:39.04, Beki Atchley was Delta's third runner, 21:46.07, and Anha Richards was fifth to cross the finish line for the Panthers.
Delta finished in ninth place as a team.
John Ames finished the season as Delta's top runner after placing 27th in last Friday's qualifying race. Ames recorded a time of 17:29.24.
Other scoring-runners for Delta included Wade Stinson, 18:08.72, Elias Carlson, 18:11.73, Logan Freed, 18:55.29, and Jeff Chadwick, 19:47.47.
Durango won the team title with 28 points. The next three teams also qualified to attend this year's state meet. Those three teams include Battle Mountain, 50, Glenwood Springs, 110, and Montrose, 121. Delta was seventh in the team race with 226 points.
Delta coach J.B. Lopez believes he will have a strong team in 2016.
