Photo by Tamie Meck Paonia Junior Cyrus Malek-Madani is a consistent point-earner for the Eagles in the discus this season. Malek-Madani also throws the shot put.

At last Wednesday's Grand Valley Cardinal Open track meet in Parachute, the Paonia boys scored 55.5 points to place fifth.

Junior Caden Meilner won silver in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:55.81 seconds, and placed fifth in the 800m run with a time of 2:18.19. Michael Hofmann placed fourth in the 200m dash (26.36).

The boys also placed fifth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.09 seconds, and fifth in the 4x800 relay (9:40.74); and sixth in the 4X400 (4:17.05).

Also in individual events, Logan Green placed sixth in the 800m (2:22.83). In high jump, freshman Kyle Long placed fourth after clearing 5-1.

In throwing events, Blake Benson placed fourth in discus with a mark of 126-11, Warren Minerich was sixth (121-04) and Cyrus Malek-Madani seventh (116-02). In shot put Minerich won with a throw of 45-02.5, Benson placed sixth (35-02.5), and Malek-Madani seventh (34-11.25).

At Saturday's Woodburn meet in Grand Junction Meilner ran his best 3200m race since the 2015 state championships, posting a new personal best time of 10:48.86. Meilner also placed seventh in the 1600 with a time of 5:00.23.

In discus Benson finished fourth with a throw of 133 feet, 8 inches, and Minerich placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 43-05.

Paonia placed fifth in 4x800 relay (9:14.72).

Paonia is in Glenwood Springs Saturday for the Demon Invitational.
