The Town of Paonia will address the fiscal year 2017 draft budget at a special budget workshop session beginning at 6 p.m. today at Town Hall. Trustees voted unanimously to accept the draft budget at the Oct. 11 board meeting. If an additional meeting is needed to consider trustee recommendations and finalize the draft, a second special meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. The public is encouraged to attend.
Interim town administrator Dan Dean reminded trustees that the draft budget is a working document subject to change. A hearing to accept public comment on the budget is scheduled for the Nov. 8 board meeting. While the meeting coincides with national, state and local elections, trustee David Bradford noted that budget meetings "have a low turnout."
