According to Paonia Police Chief Neil Ferguson, at 8:46 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, three Paonia police officers responded to the 300 block of Poplar Avenue on a report of a gunshot incident involving injuries. Officers transported the victim, identified on social media as Paonia resident Ryan Redifer, 54, to Paonia High School, where he was flown via CareFlight Colorado to St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction.
A female suspect was taken into custody, said Ferguson. The case remains under investigation, and there is no danger to the public, he said. Charges are pending.
Ferguson said the Delta County Sheriff's Office assisted with the call, and the Paonia Volunteer Fire Department assisted in securing the landing zone at the high school.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help cover Redifer's medical expenses (www.gofundme.com/ryan-redifers-medical-expense-fund).
