The baseball team from Paonia High School added three more wins to its already impressive resume this past week.

The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in 2A in the recent CHSAA online poll, got the week started off right with a 12-4 win in Gunnison last Wednesday.

KJ Seriani and Trevor Smith combined to pitch the Eagles to the win. Seriani worked three innings and gave up one hit while striking out seven.

Smith worked four frames, yielding four hits and four runs (two unearned) to Gunnison. He walked two batters and struck out six.

At the plate, Seriani and Jaden Miller paced the Eagles with three hits apiece. Miller collected two RBIs while Seriani drove in three.

Dagan Rienks and Colby Simpson each drove in a pair for the Eagles offense.

Not all the news was good as the Eagles committed an uncharacteristic 10 errors in the contest.

Paonia improved to 17-0 on the campaign after a doubleheader sweep in Meeker last Friday.

Miller pitched a complete game in the first contest, a 9-2 victory for the Eagles. Miller allowed two hits and two runs over the seven innings of work, walking one Cowboy and striking out 11.

Miller also helped his own cause by batting 4-for-4 with a triple and a double. Anders Schopp and Alex Lozano each batted 2-for-3 in the win.

Game two saw Lozano pick up the win on the mound for Paonia, hurling three innings of work. He gave up four hits, three runs, six walks and struck out two Meeker batters.

Seriani and Smith both hit home runs in the 13-3 win.

The Eagles played Cedaredge yesterday at Volunteer Park and go to Hotchkiss on Friday for the final scheduled game of the regular season.

Class 2A state baseball is set for Pueblo.
