Soroco's Ben Kelley used just 16 minutes to traverse 5000 meters at the Basalt Longhorn Invitational on Saturday.
Paonia's Eagles were also in attendance with the boys scoring 155 points to place fifth and the girls duplicating a fifth place finish by scoring 122 points in their divisional competition.
Caden Meilner was Paonia's first male competitor to finish the race. His time was 18:58 and he placed 23rd. Tim Helmer was the next finisher for the Eagles at number 33.
Harley Ewert finished 40th with Eli Etter coming in at number 45 followed by David Lozano in the 62nd spot. Hunter Morris finished 84th, Ethan Bartlett was 85th and Isaac Stanfield was 95th with Dominic Limone coming in at number 97.
Glenwood Springs won the boys team race with 36 points.
Glenwood Springs also claimed the girls team title with 36 points.
Paonia's Brooke Hillman was the first Eagle to cross the finish line with time of 22:46 and 15th place.
Nora Dransfield was 20th with a time of 23:08 and Katya Schniterman was 40th.
Macy O'Rourke crossed the line for 45th place and Alexandra Eaton was 51st. Sophia Cox finished in 84th place.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
