When the Town of Paonia's surplus auction was completed the morning of Dec. 18, nothing remained. Stacks of corrugated tin, snowmobiles, numerous water tanks and a long list of items from office chairs to a vintage fire truck once used by the Paonia fire department were auctioned off to the roughly 75 people who showed up.
Auctioneer John Cunningham, of Cunningham Auction Services in Crawford, started bidding at 10 a.m. sharp, and by 11 a.m., everything was gone.
One item that garnered a lot of attention was a vintage blue Snowcat, which sold for $1,200. "There was a lot of interest," said town manager Jane Berry, and bidding went back and forth.
"We sold everything," said Berry, and the town took in $33,035 from the sale. "It exceeded my expectations."
