Jane Berry

Three days after town auditors gave high marks for the 2015 audit, Paonia town manager Jane Berry announced that she will resign from her position effective Aug. 24.

The town board of trustees voted unanimously to appoint Berry as town manager in October 2014. She replaced interim town manager Steve Rabe. Berry came to Paonia during a time of restructuring and recovery from an embezzlement scheme that resulted in the loss of more than half a million dollars. Among her accomplishments, Berry helped put accounting control measures in place to prevent future theft, passed a balanced budget, and oversaw completion of a $5.5 million project to upgrade the town's water delivery system to bring the system in line with state guidelines.

According to Mayor Charles Stewart, the board of trustees will announce a special meeting in the near future to begin the process of finding an interim town manager.
