The Paonia Eagles are on a five-game winning streak after winning three matches last week. All three games were played on the road, and all three were won in straight sets.
Paonia opened the week last Tuesday with a 26-24, 25-21, 25-14 non-conference win over the Cowboys at Gunnison.
Mckenna Palmer led Paonia in kills with 17. Palmer had 28 serve receives with no errors, and 10 digs. Outside hitter Randi Rapke had seven kills, Taralee Mautz had four kills, and Poppy Lightfoot had three.
Carly Horn had 12 assists in 49 touches, and Poppy Lightfoot contributed 11 assists on 135 touches.
On defense, Rapke had 16 digs and Mckenna Johnson and Lightfoot each had eight.
Gunnison senior outside hitter Bailey Proprenick completed 17 kills for the match.
On Friday Paonia won a conference match at West Grand, 25-14, 25-22, 25-23. Palmer had 13 kills and 25 serve receives with one error. Lightfoot had 16 assists, and Horn 11. Mautz had 13 digs with no errors.
Paonia capped the week with a 3-0 conference win at North Park (Walden). The Eagles are now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the 2A/1A Western Slope League. They host their Homecoming match at 1 p.m. Saturday against Nucla (3-5, 1-1, 2A/1A San Juan Basin league). On Sept. 26 they welcome Vail Christian at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
