A summer series of Parties on the Porch is being presented for kids of all ages. The first debuted June 28, and continues on Tuesdays in July on the front porch of Pioneer Town's Visitor Center.
The first Party on the Porch featured a half-hour reading from Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House on the Prairie." Each of the six parties will feature readings from Wilder's books about pioneer life.
Tuesday, July 5, will feature two readings -- one at 10 a.m. and another at 1 p.m.
On Tuesday, July 12, there will be one session of Parties on the Porch at 1 p.m.
The Little House theme will conclude on Tuesday, July 19, with two more parties -- at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Organizers are making plans for another series of Parties on the Porch to begin July 26 with a different theme.
There is free admission to the Party on the Porch, free refreshments of cookies and lemonade, and free admission for the younger kids to Pioneer Town.
The "Little House on the Prairie" theme is a perfect fit for the Pioneer Town log house front porch venue. The readings are intended to be fun and entertaining, as well as to inspire young imaginations about the heritage of early settlers that Pioneer Town and the Surface Creek Valley Historical Society volunteers preserve for the local area.
