A summer series of Parties on the Porch is being presented for kids of all ages, beginning June 28 at Pioneer Town's Visitor Center on the front porch.
The first Party on the Porch is at 1 p.m., featuring a half-hour reading from Laura Ingalls Wilder's "Little House on the Prairie."
Admission to the Party on the Porch is free, and includes refreshments of cookies and lemonade, and a free admission pass for the younger kids to Pioneer Town.
The "Little House on the Prairie" theme is a perfect fit for the Pioneer Town log house front porch venue. The readings are intended to be fun and entertaining, as well as to inspire young imaginations about the heritage of early settlers that Pioneer Town and the Surface Creek Valley Historical Society volunteers help preserve.
The six Parties on the Porch will feature readings from Wilder's books. They will all take place on Tuesdays. Most will take place at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, July 5, will feature two readings - one at 10 a.m. and another at 1 p.m.
On Tuesday, July 12, there will be one Party on the Porch at 1 p.m. And the Little House theme will conclude on Tuesday, July 19 with two more parties -- at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Organizers are making plans for another series of Parties on the Porch to begin on July 26 with a different theme.
The SCVHS volunteers are offering this series as a fun and educational summertime activity for anybody and everybody to enjoy. For more information, call the Pioneer Town Museum at 856-7554.
