Paul David Smith died Dec. 7, 2017. He was 51.
He was born in Montrose to John and Ruth Townsend on May 2, 1966. He spent his childhood in Peach Valley, where he was adopted by his stepfather, David Smith, in 1982. The family moved to Hotchkiss and he graduated from Hotchkiss High School.
In November 1987, he married Daryln Coleman. They moved to California so he could pursue a career in computer programming. Mrs. Coleman died six weeks after the birth of their daughter.
Mr. Smith moved back to Colorado and worked for Radio Shack and then Walmart until health issues forced his retirement after 15 years.
He is survived by his daughter Chelsea (Michael) McCormick; grandchildren, Mason and Makayla, all of Hotchkiss; parents, Ruth and David Smith of Hotchkiss; brothers, Charles Townsend of Grand Junction, and David (Katie) Smith and Steven (Heather Clark) Smith, all of Hotchkiss; sisters, Laurie Townsend-Brewer and Kate (Tim) McDaniel, all of Hotchkiss, and Robin (Mike Shanahan) Miller of Denver; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daryln Smith; birth father, John Townsend; father- and mother-in-law, Daryl and Anita Coleman; brother, John Townsend; and two sisters, Amy Townsend and Joyce Shanahan.
