Longtime Delta resident Pauline Newsom died Dec. 31, 2016, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. She was 95.
At her request, no services are planned.
She was born in Weatherford, Texas, May 14, 1921, to Lee and Bertha (Thompson) Wilson. She spent her childhood and attended school in Spring Creek and Weatherford, Texas, graduating in 1939. After high school, she attended secretarial school. During World War II she worked at a defense plant in Fort Worth, Texas.
On Aug. 9, 1943, she married Zurl Newsom in Dallas, Texas.
Mrs. Newsom volunteered as room mother at her daughters' schools, served on the PTA and organized Girl Scout troops. She worked alongside her husband on their farm first in Texas and then on California Mesa.
She enjoyed RVing, fishing, cooking, gardening, quilting and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Jan (Jerry) Conner of Gilbert, Ariz., and Judy (Jack) Cover of Delta; two grandchildren, Kim (Chris) Spence of Gilbert, Ariz., and Todd (Suzzette) Conner of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepgrandchild, Craig (Jenny) Cover of Lakewood; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
