PEO Chapter GT hosted a luncheon on Oct. 6 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the chapter. About 40 ladies gathered at the Delta United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Guests were PEO Chapter BK, the sponsoring chapter that helped establish Chapter GT on Oct. 29, 1976.
Chapter GT president Rita Sussman gave welcoming remarks and a brief history of the organization. Seventeen members asked to be a part of the new chapter. State organizer Joyce Snider presided over the 1976 ceremony held at the Presbyterian Church of Delta's Westminster Hall. The theme for the new year was "We, As Women." Nelda Barnes, first president of Chapter GT and 50-year member of PEO, and Dianne Davis, a charter member, were present for the 40th anniversary.
BK president Lana Kevan brought greetings and presented a bouquet of flowers for the occasion. Vocalist Demeris York, accompanied by Sharon Clark, entertained with songs from musicals including "Les Miserables."
The entree was chicken salad. Festive cupcakes decorated with white and yellow Marguerites graced the tables as well as floral arrangements. Nancy Hunter, Glendy Reaves, Lucky Cox, Dorothy Dunfelder and Nelda Barnes comprised the steering committee for the event.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
