PHS netters still unbeaten

Paonia's volleyball team didn't lose any momentum during last week's play against Hayden and Hotchkiss. The Eagles won both contests in three sets and boast a widening lead in 2A District 5 volleyball standings.
With an 8-0 league record, and a 13-1 slate overall, Paonia is stretching its hold on first place. Rangely is in second place with marks of 6-0 and 11-3 with Meeker sitting in third at 7-1 and 11-3.
The match against Hayden was a methodical win for Paonia with a 25-11 first-set victory followed by wins of 25-17 and 25-10.
Kills' leaders for the match for Paonia included Brianna Van Vleet (17), McKenna Hartigan (8), Emily Pieper and McKenna Palmer with seven kills each.
Hartigan also paced the Eagles with six aces, three blocks and seven digs.
Pieper had 17 assists for Paonia.
On Friday, Oct. 7, Paonia found its way through the match with Hotchkiss relatively easy, recording wins of 25-6, 25-8 and 25-16
Hartigan led Paonia's attack with 13 kills, two assists, four blocks and four digs. Sophie Anderson had seven kills and two aces with Palmer collecting nine kills, three aces, six digs and five assists.
The Eagles are listed second in Class 2A rankings and sixth in RPI standings. Ridgway has a seventh place in RPI standings with West Grand listed 19th, Meeker 20th and Vail Mountain 24th.
Paonia has five players ranked in the top five in three of six categories in 3A WSL standings.
McKenna Palmer was first in hitting percentage, on MaxPreps with a .412 and Hartigan was second at .396.
Hartigan and Palmer rank second and third, respectively, in 3A WSL kills with 149 and 116.
Pieper's 319 assists rank second in that category with Hartigan resting in second place with 46 aces, one behind senior Gabby Wilson of West Grand.
