Property owner events added to master plan

Members of the county planning commission learned on May 2 that meetings will be available beginning next week for property owners, and for others, who want to meet individually with the master plan rewrite consultant.
Called "property -owner drop-in events," the sessions are a new feature to the master plan process that was first unveiled to local officials in January. Two staff members from RPI Consulting of Durango will be available to discuss planning issues with individuals, explained Gabe Preston, owner of RPI.
The individual meetings will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on the same dates and at the same locations as the public input sessions that are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in five county communities (see related article).
Preston also took questions from planning commission members about the master plan rewrite process. He was asked the identity of 25 people who have been selected for special private interviews on local planning issues. Planning commission members had been asked to nominate people for the interviews, but the identities of the 25 people chosen has not been made public.
"The intent is not to publish who is on the list," Preston said.
Planning commission member Jen Sanborn wanted assurance of equal representation from all areas of the county. Elyse Ackerman-Casselberry, county development director, explained that officials don't want to make the names public because the 25 people wouldn't participate if their names were made public. She added that the names might be shared with the planning commission members.
Preston said comments from the 25 private interviews would not be given more weight in forming public policy recommendations than comments from the public sessions.
