The National Park Service invites the public and stakeholders to comment on three revised alternatives that will be used in developing a Wilderness and Backcountry Management Plan for Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti National Recreation Area.
The purpose of developing a Wilderness and Backcountry Management Plan for the two parks is to guide future conservation efforts within Black Canyon and Curecanti's wilderness and backcountry. As demand for some activities is increasing in both areas, the development of these alternatives with public comment is essential in balancing conservation efforts with the amounts and types of use permitted in each park. These alternatives will also be used to develop an Environmental Assessment (EA) in concert with the Wilderness and Backcountry Management Plan.
The NPS released a plan and EA for public review in September 2011. The completion of that plan was temporarily suspended while the NPS deliberated its response to public comments received during the review period. This review process is specifically seeking comment on the revised alternatives that take those public comments from 2011 into consideration.
Comments may be submitted online at the National Park Service website Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (http://go.nps.gov/blcawildplan), emailed to email@example.com, or mailed to: Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP/Curecanti NRA, Attn: Wilderness Coordinator, 102 Elk Creek, Gunnison, CO 81230.
A hard copy of the alternatives is available by request.
The public review and comment period on these alternatives will be open until March 21.
