Randy Thompson

Randall "Randy" Wayne Thompson of Hotchkiss died Oct. 4, 2017, at Horizons Care Center. He was 64.

Memorial services were held Oct. 9 at the Chapel of the Cross in Cedaredge.

Mr. Thompson was born in Tokyo, Japan, Feb. 5, 1953, to Norma Jean and Paul Thompson.

He grew up in Fayetteville, Ark. In 1966 his family moved to Albuquerque and he graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1971. After graduating, he attended the University of New Mexico for three years, then transferred to the University of Idaho where he received a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture in 1981. He returned to New Mexico and eventually moved to Sante Fe, N.M. In 2006 he moved to Hotchkiss. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hotchkiss.

His dream was to have a walking trail around Horizons Care Center. That trail is now being planned because of his vision.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Hopkins Thompson; sons, Erick (Ruth) Thompson and Ethan (Amelia) Thompson; stepdaughter, Christie Palmer; brother, Paul (Ginger) Thompson; sister, Sandra (Bob) Crow; two grandchildren, James Bailey and Denali Thompson; and his former wife, Laura Cruickshank.
