Region 10 Area Agency on Aging - Aging and Disability Resources for Colorado (ADRC) is spearheading a six-county collaboration of businesses, community members and caregivers that serve and work with the aging and disabled populations. Goals are to enhance programs, reduce gaps, increase and access to resources. Anyone serving these populations is encouraged to join the meetings held the second Tuesday monthly alternating between Delta and Montrose. Learn ways to protect what's important to you so you can breathe easier. At this free workshop learn about advance directives and using trusts to protect heirs, special needs beneficiaries and even your pets. Tuesday, July 19, 11 a.m. to noon -- "Living with Alzheimer's: For People with Early Stage Alzheimer's and Care Partners." In the early stage of Alzheimer's disease, families face new questions as they adjust. What does the diagnosis mean? What kinds of plans need to be made? What resources are available to help? Hear from those directly affected and learn what you can do to cope with the changes that come with an early-stage diagnosis. Thursday, July 28, 1 to 3:30 p.m. -- "Healthier Living Colorado: Managing Ongoing Health Conditions." This chronic disease self-management program is evidenced based. The class meets once per week for six weeks; each session is two and a half hours long. Topics include working with your doctor; managing medications; exercise programs; relaxation techniques; dealing with emotions; managing symptoms; improving communication. Class will be held at the Grand Mesa Oncology Center in Delta. Registration is required and class size is limited. Call Region 10's Delta office, 399-3615, for prices and to register.
Application assistance clinics are held in Montrose and Delta. Region 10, Senior Community Care PACE and The Center for Independence are hosting free clinics to assist seniors or persons with a disability apply for benefits, help fill out applications, and get an explanation on their benefits letters. No appointment needed. Stop by 145 W. 4th Street the first or third Tuesday of the month, between 1 and 2:30 p.m.
