The 70th annual Cherry Days celebration is almost upon us, and early registration is either required or encouraged for some of the events.
Early registration forms for the annual Cherry Days 5k Run/Walk are available on the Cherry Days website, www.paoniacherrydays.com under "Activities." Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Apple Valley Park. This year's race benefits the Paonia High School track and cross country teams. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Entry deadline for the "Cherry Days' Got Talent" talent show is Thursday, June 30. Entry forms are available at www.paoniacherrydays.com under "Activities."
The Cherry Days Baking Contest happens during the July 4 festivities. The Cherry Days committee seeks bakers to showcase recipes made with cherries -- which are plentiful this year, so no excuses. In planning which favorite recipe to make, contestants should keep in mind that no refrigeration will be provided at the event and that all items should be in a disposable container. Entries will be sold to the general public following announcement of winners. Contact Esther at 527-5299 for details on the talent show and baking context.
The committee is also in need of more volunteers to help in several different areas. Interested volunteers can email email@example.com.
The seventh annual Eckert Crane Days, the annual viewing of the sandhill cranes migrating north from New Mexico through Colorado's West Slope, will be March 16-18. Representatives from the Black Canyon Chapter of the Audubon Society (BCAS) will be at the viewing site east of Eckert at Fruitgrowers Reservoir, 9 to 11 a.m. each day, to answer questions and provide binoculars and spotting scopes.
