After a three-year hiatus the popular Demolition Derby is returning to the Delta County Fair.
Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss, the derby promises a great night of mayhem and destruction. The event includes a car division and a truck division, plus an ATV Barrel Challenge.
Teams include a driver 18 or older, a pit crew member and a vehicle. A maximum of six vehicles and 10 pit crew members are allowed. There is an additional $50 registration fee for each additional car or truck, and a $10 fee for each additional pit crew member.
The ATV Barrel Challenge consists of two classes, the barrel race, a three-barrel challenge similar to horse barrel racing; and a pole-bending class. First place winners in each class will receive prize money, with winners determined by the best combined times.
Pits open at noon, inspection is at 3 p.m., and gates open at 6 p.m., with derby action starting at 7:30 p.m. in the arena.
Pre-registration has been extended, and will be accepted up to the day of the event. While pre-registration is encouraged, same-day registration will run from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration forms and rules are available at DeltaCountyFair.com/derby.html.
