A major renovation project spurred by HVAC failure at Delta Family Physicians has temporarily closed the clinic at 555 Meeker Street, Delta. Medical care, however, has not been disrupted, as the clinic's 23 employees temporarily provide patient care in other DCMH clinics in Delta.
Clinic director Diane Dockter is hopeful the clinic will re-open by mid-July. When it does, it will be even more functional for patients and staff.
The building suffered significant water damage as a result of the HVAC failure, Dockter said. During the process of planning repairs, the decision was made to give the entire office a makeover. The center of the building is being reconfigured to create a new triage room, a new handicap-accessible treatment room, a new instrument sterilization room, an updated kitchen and dedicated storage.
Patients will notice the new carpet in the reception area and the luxury vinyl tile in all exam rooms. A fresh coat of paint and new lighting will make the clinic welcome and inviting.
Dockter said all three HVAC units had to be replaced, which should address climate control issues in the building.
Although the clinic's staff is spread across four facilities, plus the hospital, they have continued to get together for lunch, Dockter said. "They're a great group."
Due to the urgent nature of the renovation, the project came together very quickly in late May, with Jan McCracken, clinics director, and Patti Kalahar, DCMH marketing/education, coordinating the movement of staff. Dockter travels from clinic to clinic to ensure smooth operation, then swings by the construction site to check in with the general contractor, Western Building Company. Subcontractors include Floor Covering Warehouse, Nitro Heat, Pederson Electric and Timberline Plumbing.
"They really got in and got going," Dockter said.
Delta Family Physicians has been an integral part of the community since 1956, when it was established by Drs. Hicks, Warner and Dysart. It became associated with Delta County Memorial Hospital in October 2014.
Appointments can be made through the clinic's main number at 874-5777. Reminder phone calls keep patients informed on where their physician has been temporarily relocated.
