Revolution Brewing in Paonia is the first business in the North Fork Valley to connect to Elevate Fiber's 1-gigabite internet service powered by Delta-Montrose Electric Association. The brew pub welcomed the connection at its annual Oktoberfest celebration last Friday with a specially-brewed beer, brats and live music by Mike Gwinn and the North Fork Flyers. Representatives of Elevate Fiber and Delta-Montrose Electric Association were at the celebration to answer questions, give demonstrations on the new service, and make a toast.

The Rev's brewing facility, located a half block from the beer pub, is also connected to the service.

Elevate is in the process of signing customers up who had pre-applied for the service, and turn-up in downtown Grand Avenue businesses is expected in about two weeks, said John Monday, manager of broadband services at DMEA. About two weeks after that, Paonia residents will begin receiving services, putting DMEA slightly ahead of its initial Dec. 1 goal, said Monday.

Revolution tapped a special brew, Elevate IPA, to mark the celebration. Revolution Brewing brew master Rudy Rodriguez created the special black IPA. Rodriguez described the brew as the meeting of a stout -- a darker beer -- with an India Pale Ale, or IPA. When people try it for the first time they think they're getting a stout, only to discover it's much lighter, he said.

The recipe uses Chinook and Nugget hops from High Wire Hops in Paonia and has a nice, piney taste, said Rodriguez. With tastes turning to a more stout beer as temperatures drop, and with hops in season, "It seemed fitting."

The beer was served in commemorative Elevate Fiber glasses. The event included drawings for prizes from area businesses and donated by DMEA, as well as Elevate water bottles and other items.
