Crawford resident Richard Joseph Coppinger died Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Paonia Care Center. He was 56.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
He was born March 3, 1960, in Cortez to Richard and Myrt (Williams) Coppinger. He spent his childhood and attended school in Cortez.
On May 2, 1992, he married Sharon Lynn Runkle in Las Vegas, Nev.
Mr. Coppinger worked as a carpenter for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, snacking, playing horseshoes and mountain croquet, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sharon Coppinger; his mother, Myrt Powell of Oregon; two sons, Casey Childress of Arizona and Christopher Childress of New Mexico; a daughter, Celeste Parker of Crawford; three sisters, Susan Potter of Arizona, Jan Coppinger of California and Raea Morris of Montana; and five grandchildren.
His father, Richard Coppinger, preceded him in death.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
