Roger G. Parks died Saturday, March 26, 2016. He was 72.
He was born in Davidson County, N.C., Nov. 3, 1943, to Culbert and Lola Belle Parks.
In 1964 Mr. Parks began his 32-plus-year career in firefighting, working as an engineer at Station 8 in the City of High Point, N.C. He moved to Grand Junction in 1979 where he was an engineer for the Grand Junction Fire Department. A heart attack in 1997 forced his retirement.
He moved to Hotchkiss where he worked with the Forest Service and local entities, using his property to teach fire mitigation methods.
Mr. Parks enjoyed sharing his love of nature and adventure, hunting, fishing, running an outfitters business and providing habitat for wildlife.
He is survived by three children; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and extended family in North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Parks.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be taken to North Carolina where a memorial service will be held at a later date.
A memorial service was held at Redlands Mesa Grange Hall April 1.
Memorial contributions may be sent to a local fire department.
