Ronald Shiflet

Hotchkiss resident Ronald B. Shiflet died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Paonia Care Center. He was 80.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Bible Baptist Church in Hotchkiss.

Mr. Shiflet was born in Lima, Ohio, Oct. 10, 1936, to Harold and Myrtle (Barr) Shiflet. He spent his childhood and attended school in Lima until he was 12. He moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and finished school there. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force.

On May 29, 1966, he married Jackie Smith in Phoenix, Ariz.

He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hotchkiss, Hotchkiss Elks Lodge #1807 and the Masonic Lodge in Hotchkiss. He enjoyed fly fishing, tying flies, hunting, horses, cows, mules and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Shiflet; two sons, Rowdy (Amy) Shiflet and Justin (Melissa) Shiflet; a daughter, Tara Shiflet; a brother, George (Beverly) Shiflet; a sister, Jan (Jerry) Johnson; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild on the way.
