Rose Loring died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at her home in Cedaredge. She was 85.
A memorial service will be held in late June at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction.
Rose Marie Verzal was born in Selma, Ala., Aug. 29, 1930, to Frank and Eva (Groh) Verzal. She spent her childhood in Selma and Pascagoula, Miss. She graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1948.
She married George Stephenson in 1949. The marriage ended in divorce. She married John Loring Jr. Feb. 25, 1953, in St. George, Utah.
Mrs. Loring enjoyed traveling and exploring the surrounding area while living in Las Vegas, Nev., San Antonio, Texas, Biloxi, Miss., Hampton, Va., Honolulu, Hawaii, Colorado Springs and Montgomery, Ala. She and her husband lived in Europe eight years while stationed at RAF Croughton, England and Ramstein Air Base in Kaiserslautern, Germany. After John's retirement they raised pecans in Neches, Texas, before settling in Cedaredge where they have lived over 30 years.
Mrs. Loring was an artist and volunteered as an Air Force wife in community and veteran support activities. Her creative VFW Buddy Poppy displays won numerous awards at the state and national level. She was a member of the Delta Christian Church Gleaners.
She is survived by her husband, John Loring of Cedaredge; her daughters, Margaret (Michael) Warner of Cedaredge, Catherine (William) Hale of Longview, Texas, and Jacqueline (David) Whitman of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; her sister, Annita Mae McReynolds of Bullard, Texas; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Verzal and Julian Verzal; and a sister, Lillian Ponds.
