Lifetime North Fork Valley resident Ruth L. Smith died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. She was 90.
A memorial service was held at Horizons Care Center on Tuesday, April 5.
Ruth Ladean Kurts was born in Paonia May 5, 1925, to James and Melinda (Johnson) Kurts. She grew up and attended school in Paonia.
She married Harold Smith in December 1941 in Grand Junction.
Mrs. Smith worked as a cook at the school and helped Harold on the family farm.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning and cooking.
She is survived by her sons, Peter (Marie) Smith of Dillon, Mont., and Michael (Carol) Smith of LaCombe, Alberta, Canada; her brothers, John Kurts of Payette, Idaho, and Jesse (Ima) Kurts of Wilder, Idaho; her sisters, Grace Hopkins of Hotchkiss and Esther (John) Anderson of Klamath Falls, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Smith; a son, David Smith; her brothers, Lowell and Harold Kurts; and her sisters, Racheal Corbitt and Blanche Bear.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory handled the arrangements.
