Delta Opportunity School's Food for Thought and Lincoln Elementary School's College for Every Student team up to sponsor the Souper Bowl of Caring food drive contest this week at Lincoln. The classrooms will compete to see which one will donate the most pounds of food. Opportunity School students will weigh and collect the food on Friday.
It is a great time, as many spend extra on fun foods for the Super Bowl, to think of those in need and donate some food to them. The collected food will be sorted by Opportunity School students and used either in the Friday food bags of Food for Thought, donated to the Abraham Connection homeless shelter, or to the Delta Food Pantry. Food for Thought currently provides 250 students with five-plus food items each week to ensure that all students know they will have food on the weekends.
The winning class will be served pizza and banana splits by the DOS students. The winning teacher will get dinner for two at Daveto's. A big thank you to Lincoln Elementary School. The schools are excited to team up to tackle hunger in our community!
To donate to Food for Thought call 874-6505, bring your donations to the Delta-Montrose Technical College, or mail monetary support to DOS, 1765 Hwy. 50, Delta, CO 81416.
