Selena Pedersen died after a two-year battle with cancer Jan. 2, 2016, at her home in Cedaredge. She was 80.
Memorial services will be held in Cedaredge at a later date.
Selena Fontaine Stone was born in Roanoke, Va., Sept. 12, 1935, to Norton and Emille (Knight) Stone. She spent her childhood in Roanoke and the coalfields of West Virginia near Bluefield.
She attended Wellesley College, UCLA and UCSB where she received a bachelor's degree in botany.
She moved to California in the 1950s and married Leo Pedersen in Los Angeles. They lived in Montecito, Calif., where they raised their children.
Mrs. Pedersen moved to Roanoke, Va., in the 1980s to care for her father in his later years. In the early 1990s she moved to Cedaredge where she had a home built.
She worked as the director of the Montecito Association and as a travel agent. She served on the Cold Springs School District board, was a Girl Scout leader and ran an after-school art program when her children were young. In Cedaredge, she was elected to the board of trustees and served as treasurer for Pioneer Town.
Mrs. Pedersen enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and landscaping.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Bill) Parker and their children, Matt and Kevin Parker; and her son, Eric (Lori) Pedersen and their children Stacia and Zoey Pedersen.
Interment is in the family plot in Roanoke, Va.
