Seniors earn academic and athletic recognition

At conclusion of the Cedaredge High School Scholarship and Senior Awards Celebration on May 10, Lydia Kuntson was awarded the Principal's Award.

The award is given on the basis of academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, community involvement and character.

Knutson has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Other awards for academic performance and athletic achievement were presented to seniors of the Cedaredge High School graduating class of 2016 during the event on Tuesday, May 10.

Awards for top academic performance measured by grade-point average (3.85 to 4.0 or higher) went to Lydia Knutson, Shane Gates, Nellie Freeman, Kenzie Henderson, Andrew Reynolds, Noah LaVau, Mckenzie Moore, Amber Jenkins, Angela Saenz, Sierra Baldozier and Tyler Reynolds.

Awards for academic excellence measured by grade-point average (3.5 to 3.84) went to Brittany Chlarson, Kerry Ribbens, Jacob Small, Kendall McHugh, Claire Camp, Bryce Klaseen, Kyler Anderson, Selbi Shenold and Joanna Smail.

Male and female athlete of the year honors went to Tyler Cooper and Nellie Freeman.

Seniors awarded the Scholar Athlete honor for maintaining at least a 3.5 grade point average and lettering in two sports were Lydia Knutson, Shane Gates, Nellie Freeman, Kenzie Henderson, Amber Jenkins, Sierra Baldozier, Tyler Reynolds, Kendall McHugh and Bryce Klaseen.

Three-sport athletes in the class of 2016 were Nellie Freeman, Kendall McHugh, Bryce Klaseen, Tyler Cooper, Jacob Ostrom, Tristan Waddell and JP Morgan.
