Photo submitted Members of the Senior Hikers enjoy a recent alpine outing together and now have their sights on some adventures at lower elevations.
Eighteen cross-country skiers and snowshoers from the Cedaredge Senior Hikers group came out for the annual end-of-the-snow-season trek down to Ward Creek Reservoir from the trailhead near Thunder Mountain Cabins.
It was a gorgeous spring day and the warm conditions saw the group shedding sweaters, hats and gloves as they moved down the mountain.
This outing was followed by a lunch at Alexander Lake Lodge where several more folks joined our group in the lodge's beautifully renovated sun room.
The lodge provided a lunch of its famous Polish dogs, pulled pork, salads and hunter's stew. A great time was had by all.
This outing usually signals the end of the snow activities. But with the fresh powder up on the Mesa, several of the group have been up there this past week making fresh tracks.
The Senior Hikers enjoy the out-of-doors in all seasons. But with spring and summer around the corner, the group is thinking about the river day outings that will soon see them floating the Gunnison in kayaks, canoes and rafts.
If anyone has an interest in joining the group for its weekly Wednesday hikes or river floats, give Jude Kieca a call at 856-7331.
We have gotten six new hikers to our group in the last six months. Our group has kept its member numbers up for over 12 years!
