The Surface Creek Senior Citizens searched for and found some of the best bakers of pies and other apple treats at the group's annual bakeoff and sale held during Saturday at AppleFest.
Winners were announced at noon on Saturday, and the enjoyment of local homebaked apple goodies continued from the 9 a.m. opening to the end of Saturday's big events.
The winners in the bakeoff as provided by the seniors were as follows:
Best Apple Pie -- both first and second place went to JoAn Hanson. Third place went to Myrna Bertram.
In the miscellaneous apple baked goods category, the winners were Rachell Foster for her apple cobbler; second place went to Jayne Countryman for her apple pie jam; and third place went to D.Ann Schweitert for her apple roses.
The Surface Creek Seniors set up for their apple baking celebration every year in the office space next door to the chamber office on Main Street. Anyone wanting to sample some of the best local apple baked treats needs to have the seniors on their list for a "must do" stop at next year's AppleFest.
