Photo by Pat Sunderland The Serenity Run will be accompanied this year by two other Cedaredge downtown events: a 1st Friday Art Walk on August 4, and Celebrate Cedaredge street vendor fair on Aug. 5.
The 35th annual Serenity Run Motorcycle Rally will top a list of events Aug. 3 through 6.
The Serenity Run normally begins as riders from all over roll into town on Thursday and events continue through to Sunday. Big Spruce Campground at 24862 Ute Trail Road is serving as event headquarters and many activities and organized events will originate from there. Participants will also stay at Aspen Trails Campground and in local motels.
A big crowd-pleaser is the parade through Cedaredge along Highway 65 on Saturday morning. With roaring motorcyles, zany costumes and interesting rides, the parade begins at 11 a.m.
Throughout the three days of the Serenity Run, participants enjoy a wide range of activities, games and rides across the spectacular Western Slope. The people of Cedaredge have been responsible for making the Serenity Run event a success with their open-arms welcome for the bikers, and especially for the clean and sober lifestyles they have adopted and that are the spiritual focus of the run. There are 12-step meetings scheduled throughout the event.
The Grand Mesa VFW Post and Auxiliary have announced a change in location for their big Serenity Run fundraiser on Aug. 4 and 5 to the Stolte Shed.
Post commander Gary Tollefson told the DCI in an e-mail, "We were unable to come to an agreement with the City of Cedaredge on the rental of the Community Center and we have moved the breakfast to the Stolte Shed."
The two-day fundraiser will be on Friday and Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Stolte Shed.
All funds raised will go to assist veterans and their families, and support patriotic activities, school programs and scholarships in our community.
This is the buttermilk "made from scratch" pancake breakfast served with sliced ham and scrambled eggs. All you can eat. You will not leave hungry and Post and Auxiliary members "guarantee it."
Cost is $7 for adults, age 6 to 12 is $3, and age six and under free.
This year there will be plenty of other things going on in Cedaredge.
On Friday, Aug. 4, the Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce's 1st Friday Art walk will also take place. (See related article below.)
Then on Saturday, Aug. 5, Main Street will be filled with vendors, live music and entertainment for the Celebrate Cedaredge street party. The fun runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Also, on Saturday the Pondy Cancer Warriors will be hosting a fundraising benefit walk in Town Park from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
And, the Cedaredge Family Fun 1k Dart will begin at 8:30 a.m. Hosted by the Town of Cedaredge, the goal is to get the community outside for a leisurely 1k, focusing on fun over competition. All proceeds will be donated to Cedaredge High School athletics. It will begin at the Masonic Lodge parking lot at 295 W. Main in Cedaredge. Cost is $15.
