On Wednesday, Nov. 9, Delta United Methodist Church hosted Bishop Karen Oliveto, the recently appointed bishop of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church (RMCUMC). The conference includes all of Colorado, Utah and part of Wyoming.

In addition to the presence of the bishop, the first to visit Delta since 1993, 140 clergy and laity from the seven United Methodist congregations in Delta and Montrose counties were in attendance. The seven churches gathered for their annual business meetings which are usually conducted individually. The bishop's presence allowed all churches to celebrate together with potluck meal and fellowship.

Bishop Oliveto, the first openly lesbian bishop elected in the United Methodist Church, is on a listening and information sharing trip of the Utah/Western Colorado District of RMCUMC. Bishop Oliveto gave an inspiring message of hope and sharing the light of Jesus Christ to all God's children. Delta United Methodist Youth Fellowship acted as hosts for all the visitors.

For more information on this historic visit, contact Delta United Methodist Church, 874-9501.
