Shirley Ann Koenig died Aug. 6, 2016, in Huntsville, Ala.
She was born Sept.16, 1918, in East Liverpool, Ohio, and was raised in Chester, W.Va. and East Liverpool, Ohio.
A celebration of her life will be held in Owens Crossroads, Ala., on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Mrs. Koenig lived in Delta from 1969 to 1993.
She was a modern day pioneer who made lye soap, milked goats, raised and skinned rabbits, and made strawberry wine. She enjoyed gardening, preserving food, harvesting honey from her beehives, trying new types of vegetables and herbs, breeding dogs to create a new breed she called the Possumtown Terrier, and in everything she did, she taught her children how to think outside the box.
She traveled the world in her youth and with her husband after he retired.
