Basil "Shorty" A. Davis died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at Phoebe Berks Village Gardens in Wernersville, Pa. He was 98.
He was born in Braeymor, Mo., Jan. 29, 1918, to William and Irma (Blakely) Davis. He was raised near Delta and graduated from Delta High School.
He served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Armored Division, during World War II. His unit was the first in to liberate concentration camps in Germany.
Mr. Davis was a member of the former Lebanon Valley Church of the Nazarene and attended Glad Tidings Church.
He enjoyed studying the Bible, hunting, fishing and collecting arrowheads.
He is survived by a sister, Dixie Minear.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae (Stein) Davis on Aug. 7, 2001; a daughter, Yvonne Warfle in 1971; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Services were held Feb. 13 at Lamm and Witman Funeral Home in Wernersville. Interment was at Strausstown Cemetery.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
